微粉蜡是各种各样的蜡以及PE、PC等的有机高分子树脂，使用适当的溶剂进行溶解、结晶的产品。粒子几乎都是球形的、平均粒径偏差非常小。另外，根据各个树脂的特性、粒径的特征，可以在涂料、油墨当中添加，作为消光剂、耐磨增强剂、耐伤增强剂、结块防止剂、润滑剂、排列剂、颜料沉降防止剂、流挂防止剂、离型剂等。
特征
1）固体成分
浓度5～50%，分布的幅度宽广，可以配合不同的用途。
2）粒子粒径
可以根据用途选择不同的粒径的产品，1微米以下～50微米粒径的范围之内可以任意选择。
3）溶剂载体类型
芳香族系列溶剂、酯类溶剂、醇类溶剂、混合溶剂、水性溶剂均有，可以进行分门别类地使用。
用途
1）消光剂
相比丙烯酸、聚氨酯以及其他的涂料的固体成分，添加粉体的0.3～5%的用量，就可以使到涂膜表面浮现出来粒子，形成光的乱反射从而得到消光的效果。另外，与无机系列的消光剂比较的话，PE的比重小，并具有良好的触变性，添加到涂料中不会沉降。
2）耐磨增强剂、耐划伤增强剂、结块防止剂、润滑剂
与消光剂使用的时候一样，使用的用量也是添加0.3～5%（相对涂料的固体成分），浮现出来的粒子使到涂膜具有良好的耐磨、耐划伤、防止结块等明显的功效。
3）排列剂、颜料沉降防止剂、流挂防止剂
分散变性的PE蜡存在着一部分微结晶区，加入到金属涂料当中（使用量5～7%），可以使到使用的铝粉膜层的排列有所改善。另外，也具有使到颜料的沉降防止效果、流挂防止效果。
4）离型剂
由于PE的特性，可以作为塑料成型时候的离型剂使用。
将热复印使用的树脂或者是蜡做成微粒子，均一地分散在溶剂或者水当中。
